Clamping sleeves are slotted steel sleeves and are used for mounting bearings with conical bore on cylindrical shafts. Accordingly, they have a cylindrical bore and a tapered outer surface. In order to slide the bearings on, clamping sleeves have a thread on the smaller cone diameter for screwing on a grooved nut, which after assembly, together with a locking element (locking plate or locking clip), also assumes the function of the fastening element.

By drawing the bearing onto the sleeve, the bearing clearance is reduced and a tight fit is produced. As the bearing size increases, the pressing force to be generated also increases. In order to reduce the frictional force between the fitting surfaces to be pushed, clamping sleeves with hydraulic connections on the end faces and oil distribution grooves on the fitting surfaces are also available from 140 mm sleeve bore onwards.

Clamping sleeves are available in various dimensional series adapted to the bearings to be mounted with a 1:12 or 1:30 taper.

Standards

Clamping sleeves are standardised in DIN 5415. With the exception of customized adaptations or special designs, KRW clamping sleeves comply with the specifications in DIN 5415.

The scope of delivery of a clamping sleeve also includes the corresponding grooved nut according to DIN 981 as well as the locking element to prevent twisting according to DIN 5406. Up to a bore of 200 mm, safety plates are preferably used, as well as lockclips.

Designation

The nomenclature of a clamping sleeve according to DIN 5415 is as follows:

Clamping Sleeve DIN 5415 — H 211: Designation of a complete clamping sleeve with grooved nut and nut locking device with a bore diameter d1 = 50 mm and a width B1 = 37 mm, without oil connection

Clamping Sleeve DIN 5415 — H 3156 H: Designation of a complete clamping sleeve with grooved nut and nut locking device with a bore diameter d1 = 260 mm and a width B1 = 195 mm, with an oil connection on the thread side and with access to the oil groove in the tapered surface (suffix H)

Clamping Sleeve DIN 5415 — H 3156 HB: Designation of a complete clamping sleeve with grooved nut and nut locking device with a bore diameter d1 = 260 mm and a width B1 = 195 mm, with two oil connections on the thread side, one with access to the oil groove in the tapered outer surface, the second 90° offset with access to the oil groove in the sleeve bore (suffix HB)

Note

When selecting the oil duct arrangement (suffix H or HB), pay attention to the assembly situation.

If the sleeve is axially fixed to a shaft shoulder or shaft ring, the bearing is pushed onto the sleeve and only oil channels are required on the tapered outer surface (suffix H).

If not the sleeve but the bearing is axially fixed, the sleeve is pulled under the bearing. This results in an additional friction surface between shaft and sleeve, which must be subjected to oil pressure (suffix HB).
